Index is a Chrome extension that keeps your tab groups in workspaces. This page says what it stores and where.

The short version

Index collects nothing. It has no server, no analytics and no network requests. Nobody, its author included, ever receives anything from it. What it saves, it saves for you, in your own Chrome profile.

What it saves

To do this it reads the titles and addresses of your open tabs. Tabs outside your projects are listed in the panel but never saved. Unless you turn Rewind on, there is no history: when a tab leaves a project, its address goes with it.

The search box that opens over a page is Index's own page in a frame. It reads nothing from the page beneath it, and it is removed when you close it.

Rewind

Rewind is off until you turn it on. While it is on, Index keeps a record of the changes to your workspaces and projects, so you can go back to an earlier moment. The record holds what a project holds: names, colors, and the titles and addresses of tabs, including ones you have since removed.

Where it's stored

In Chrome's extension storage, in your Chrome profile.

Site icons come from the copies Chrome already has.

Export and delete

Export writes everything to one file on your computer, and it goes nowhere unless you send it. To delete your data, delete your workspaces in Index. Removing the extension removes what it stored on that computer. Files Rewind wrote to a folder you chose stay there until you delete them or clear the record.
